Mommy Drama Teleseries

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

Let's face it. When you get to be a certain age, the inevitable question on everyone's lips is: "Are you having kids?"

And after you have one, it's: "Are you having more?"

So, are you?

It's not as easy to answer as it was for our mothers and grandmothers. It's also not easy to weed out other peoples' opinions from what you want. Not to mention that ticking time bomb called your biological clock.

No matter what you decide, the real trick is staying true to yourself.

The Mommy Drama teleseries is a six-part conversation over the phone hosted by certified life coach Lauree Ostrofsky.

Through structured conversation and powerful homework assignments, we'll unearth everything we know about motherhood. We'll look at what it means to you and at the long-term vision you have for your life. The whole time, you are supported by other women who are right where you are.

Together, we face those nagging questions, such as:

  • How can I maintain my identity and be a mom?
  • What's possible if I choose not to have children, or any more?
  • What would it mean to have a child without a partner?
  • How do I tell people about my decision?
  • What if I have trouble getting pregnant?
  • How can I cultivate my relationship and career while parenting?

Power of Choice Guided Conversation

Monday, June 28, 2010

Guided conversations are two-hours long and designed for groups of six or more. These are ideal as a team-building exercise for the office, to set the mood for a weekend retreat, or to liven up an at-home get-together, such as a book club. You set the date, and together we come up with a topic to get everyone talking. Then on the day-of you can sit back and participate while I lead the group.

Topics range from career development to goal-setting for the year-ahead.

The Power of Choice

We are affected by any number of events in our lives - achievements, loss, dreams or fears. Through it all is the thread of choice. We choose how we experience something in our lives and what we do about it.

This guided conversation is designed to explore the connections between what has happened and what we want in the future.

Questions we can consider as a group:

  • What lessons help propel me forward?
  • What already exists within me to reach my goals?
  • What support do I need to take the next step?

Apartment Guru: Need help with a peeping tom or the dream girl next door?

Monday, June 14, 2010

Simply Leap's Lauree Ostrofsky is a featured expert in rentedspaces' Apartment Guru. Recent stories:

Make a Move on the Dream Girl Next Door?
A reader is interested in his neighbor and not sure how to proceed.

"Ostrofsky suggests that you mix a little manliness into your "girl talk," which, let's face it, is kind of what you're having with her when she comes over to talk about dudes.

'He needs to make eye contact and be decisive in his words,' she adds. 'If you wanted a job, is this how you would act?'...

Ostrofsky coaches, 'If you want something, you need to exude the confidence that you can handle the situation, whether it's a relationship or a job, and know your stuff.'"

Peeping Tom Prevention
For a question about neighbors who share a balcony, and how to keep one from seeing the other when the dog comes over on their side:

"Life coach Lauree Ostrofsky at Simply Leap says, 'My first thought about the neighbor is ... does he ever `entertain?' If so, that's a great segue into the conversation.'"

From the introduction:

In this book, we hope to arm you with tools to create a relationship that not only contains a lot of sex, but also contains a lot of desire. 'Each individual needs to define for themselves what a healthy sex life is,' says Lauree Ostrofsky, a life coach in New York City. 'Sex is a vital element to what makes a long-term commitment possible.'

The Power of Slow: 101 Ways to Save Time in Our 24/7 World

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Looking for ways to save time? Check out Christine Louise Hohlbaum's The Power of Slow. Lauree Ostrofsky is featured (on pages 44 and 196) among the experts and tips for making the most of life, and slowing down to actually enjoy it:

The Myth of Multitasking

Multilevel worrying can lead us to paralysis. Downloading our mental vision and adjusting our energy flow can sharpen our outward focus.

"Rather than completing several tasks at the same time," states certified personal coach Lauree Ostrofsky, "it's more likely that we're just worrying about all of those tasks at once. And not getting any of them done."

Focus Factor

New York-based communications consultant and certified coach Lauree Ostrofsky says forgiveness is a big step toward learning how to do things one at a time. "If I'm working on something, I often feel guilty about not doing something else. I know it sounds silly, but it's like each to-do has its own voice begging me to choose it. When I make my choice, I'm letting one of them down. The key to focus is (1) being honest about what you really want to do, and (2) forgiving yourself for not being able to do it all so you can just do that one thing really well."
